Motion Palpation
A manual technique used to identify vertebrae that are misaligned or not moving properly. The chiropractor gently presses vertebrae in various directions to feel for improper movement. The feel of the spinal joint being examined is compared with normal motion for that area of the spine to provide the chiropractor with valuable information for treatment.
Gonstead Adjusting Technique
A manual adjusting technique named after its founder, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, who was a mechanical engineer as well as a Doctor of Chiropractic. He integrated engineering principles with anatomy, physiology, neurology, and chiropractic science to create a new chiropractic adjusting system. It is used to locate improperly moving segments in the spinal column and then to correct them and restore normal function.
Diversified Adjusting Technique
A collection of manual adjusting techniques used to correct misaligned or subluxated spinal segments of the neck and back. By having a number of adjusting methods at his disposal, the chiropractor is able to customize care for each patient’s needs. After locating the misaligned vertebra, the chiropractor applies gentle pressure and restores normal movement. Adjustments help restore function, improve mobility, and relieve pain and stiffness.
ArthroStim Adjusting Instrument
A spinal adjustment technique that uses an electronic adjusting instrument to gently vibrate the vertebra into place at 10 to 14 impulses per second. This instrument offers the doctor both precision and the ability to gently direct the adjusting energy in a way that maximizes patient comfort.
Activator Adjusting Instrument
This adjustment method makes use of a mechanical spring instrument that can deliver a single specific impulse the vertebra in a very precise location. The spine’s own muscles pull the adjusted vertebrae into more normal position.
Trigger Point Therapy
These are soft tissue techniques based on the works of Dr. Raymond Nimmo and Dr. Janet Travell. The chiropractor identifies areas within muscles that contain a build-up of body waste products, such as lactic acid. Gentle pressure is applied to the area to stimulate the body’s circulatory system to remove the waste products naturally and release muscle tension.
Myofascial / Soft Tissue Manipulation
A deep pressure massage applied to an identified soft tissue problem area connected to the spine that stimulates healing of muscles and connective tissues to relieve pain from injury or stress.
Extremity Adjusting Techniques
An advanced technique that is used to correct joint motion in areas other than the spine. Improper motion from accidents or injuries can cause pain, irritation, and restriction. The chiropractor can identify and correct abnormal mechanics in articulations such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, ankles, and feet.
